Amani Village ('amani' is the Swahili word for 'peace') will be a community centered around a holistic approach to reconciliation, combining education, human rights programs, and economic empowerment. All three of these components are absolutely essential if we wish to create sustainable peace in a region devastated by decades of violence and civil war.

How do we create ‘sustainable peace?’ We must target the children who bear the consequences of the genocide. They must feel that they have a voice in the peace-building process. If they attend school and receive the tools and resources to provide for their families they will take a stake in the future of their communities.

Amani Village will consist of:

• A vocational training school
• A primary school
• A secondary school
• A home for street children
• A sustainable guesthouse and restaurant
• Playgrounds and sport fields for all of our sports teams
• A library and resource center for human rights and peace-building
• A computer laboratory

The Amani School is not charity-as-usual. We are not giving hand-outs to these youth, but providing them with the education to determine their own futures. This is the most effective way to creating real change in the Nyamata community and in Rwanda as a whole.

The vision and development of Amani Village is rooted in the commitment and dedication of a grassroots organization in Rwanda, Amani Africa.

How can you help?

Developing Amani Village is a three-phase process (see diagram below) and we need help in all three phases.
